UCM NEWS UPDATE

We held our AGM on 3rd March 2021 via the platform Zoom, 11 UCM Members attended.

Father Roy opened the meeting with a prayer and as we remembered our members who were unwell and those no longer with us, we remembered them with Father reading from the Gospel about Christ’s temptation in the wilderness.  He asked to reflect on our own lives  and on having nothing, “if we have nothing – no material things, we only have Jesus and the Kingdom of God to focus on.”  Father Roy gave us an eye opening lenten talk, as was usual for our March meeting and gave us plenty to think about, especially with COVID hopefully coming to an end soon and how we were going to rebuild our church.

We followed with our AGM of reports being read out by our President Anne Rodrigues, the Secretary’s report on the last years’ minutes – Debbie Martin, Treasurer’s Report by Deirdre Turner and the Welfare Report by Clare Tucker.  Vote of thanks and seconders were given for all the reports and then re-election of Officers took place.  All the Officer’s took their roles again except Clare Tucker who has served 5 years – a vote of thanks was given to Clare for her role as Welfare Officer.  Gill Tomei will take on the role as from March 2021.  No further members came forward to go on the committee and the AGM was concluded with no matters arising.

Any other Business told us that Southwark Officer, Mary Burt had recently passed away and her funeral was held on the following week by Webcast from the East Surrey Crematorium.  We were welcomed to attend.

We suggested that our members contribute around £5 towards our UCM funds to keep the ‘pot topped up’.         All monies to be sent to our Treasurer, Deirdre.

Our next meeting on April 5th will be a Talk from Sarah Goldsack on Paracise via Zoom.  This is a form of gentle exercise and seems to be the latest ‘thing’.  If you join the zoom meeting and don’t want to take part in the Paracise exercises, you can just sit and watch.  We have a a good Programme of Events which we have sent out to all our UCM members and the zoom link for the April meeting will be sent out a week before by Gill Tomei.

If you wish to join our meetings, please contact Anne Rodrigues and she will give you further details. You are very welcome to come along.
